Doris Harris Almgren, 81, of Macon, died Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Pine Pointe Hospice in Macon, GA.  Funeral services will be held Monday, January 2, 2017 at 11:00 am at Musella Baptist Church.  Visitation will be one hour prior to the service.  Burial will follow in Roberta City Cemetery.

Mrs. Almgren was born August 6, 1935, in Crawford County, GA to the late John Robert Harris and Lillian Ross Harris.  She was a graduate of Crawford County High School and Georgia State College for Women in Milledgeville, GA.  She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, the last 23 years in Clayton County.  She lived in Atlanta until moving to Macon in 2013.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Lamar Almgren; brother, John Robert Harris, Jr.; and sister, Margaret Harris (Billy).

Survivors include four brothers, William F. “Billy” Harris of Culloden, Hinton Harris (Allene) of Athens, Charlie Harris (Betty) of Musella, Russell Harris (Evelyn) of Musella; three sisters, Joyce Hortman of Macon, Nancy Sneathen (Carl) of Atlanta and Ann Gillespie (Charlie) of Athens; sister-in-law, Clara Harris of Macon; numerous nieces and nephews including Christopher “Chris” Harris who was more like a brother and many great-nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Musella Baptist Church, PO Box 56, Musella, GA  31066 or a hospice facility of your choice.
