Florine S. (Shearer) Spillers

Funeral services for Sarah Lee Florine Shearer Spillers, 92, of Musella, will be held on Monday, October 22, 2018 at 11:00 am at Roberta United Methodist Church.  Burial will follow in Roberta City Cemetery. Mrs. Florine passed away on Wednesday, October 17, 2018 at her home surrounded by her loved ones.  She was born October 11, 1926 in Brooks County, Georgia. She was a graduate of Valdosta High School and Crandall Business College.  She was a member of Roberta United Methodist Church and taught the Crusaders Sunday School Class. She served as Past Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star and was a member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.  Her work history included employment with Grady’s Store, The Old Knoxville Store, Oxford’s Furniture Company, Roberta Glove Plant, Hayes and Son Cotton Gin and Store, and Crawford County Tax Commissioners Office. She retired in 1989 from the United States Department of Agriculture Soil Conservation Service.  She was a faithful volunteer for the Alzheimer’s Association, American Heart Association, and American Cancer Society. Mrs. Florine loved her family, friends, church, and community.

Mrs. Florine was preceded in death by her parents, Jackson Shearer and Aline Johnson Shearer; her husband, William A. Spillers; sister, Gladys Shearer Toole; and brother, LeeRoy Shearer.

Survivors include one son, Stanley Spillers (Sybil) of Roberta; one daughter, Sheree Spillers Applebury of Musella; one sister, Rosa Bennett of Macon; grandchildren, Vicki Turner (Cathy) of McDonough, Sarah Applebury of Macon,  Wesley Applebury of Milledgeville, and William Applebury of Atlanta; sister-in-law, Lucille Skinner of Norcross; brother-in-law, Terry Spillers of Musella; numerous beloved nieces and nephews; and her faithful caretakers, Demetris and Randy Lockett.

Visitation will be held on Sunday, October 21, 2018 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Roberta United Methodist Church or Alzheimer’s Association.
