Fred Jarrell, Jr. Obituary

Fred Stanford Jarrell, Jr. passed away on November 22, 2020.  Visitation will be held at Union United Methodist Church, Wednesday, November 25, from 1-2pm, with a graveside service following at Union Cemetery. The Reverend Dennis Stalvey and the Reverend Jeremy Alexander will be officiating.  The pallbearers are Dr. Ben Cheek, Al Denton, Dr. George Jarrell, Jay Jarrell, Dr. Todd Jarrell, Mickey Massey, Jack McGlaun and Charles Miller.

Fred was born in Butler, Georgia on December 26, 1940, the son of the late Fred Stanford Jarrell, Sr. and Estelle Spinks Jarrell.  He graduated from Butler High School and then Georgia Southwestern College with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. He began employment with Flint EMC in September 1962 as a Reproduction Clerk.  He eventually became District Manager and then Vice-President of District Operations.  He briefly served as CEO and then Assistant to the President.  For many years, Fred also served as the President of the Flint Federal Credit Union.  His time of service at the Flint Organization totaled 41 years and he retired in January 2003.  After retirement, he continued his involvement with Flint on the Flint Foundation Board and the Operation Roundup Board, and in 2009 he received the Spirit of Flint Award.

In addition to his time at Flint, Fred volunteered in the community in numerous ways.  For 33 years, he was a member of the Kiwanis Club, serving as secretary and president during that time.  He was a Taylor County Commissioner, a Reynolds volunteer firefighter, and he worked with the Boy Scouts of America for many years.  A faithful member of Union United Methodist Church, he was church treasurer for over 30 years, as well as Sunday School Administrator and a Sunday School teacher.

After retirement, Fred moved back home to the Jarrell Farm and enjoyed helping his mother, Estelle Jarrell, run Jarrell’s Grocery Store until its closure in 2016.  He loved the farm and being outdoors, and one of his favorite hobbies was tending to the vegetable garden every year.  Fred was loved by everyone who knew him.  He had a very kind and welcoming spirit and a servant’s heart.  His devotion to his community and loyalty to his family were an example for all.

Fred is survived by his wife, Patricia Denton Jarrell; son, Fred Stanford Jarrell III and Stacy; daughter, Susanne Jarrell Carter and Jeff; sister-in-law, Nina Payne Jarrell; grandchildren, Ansleigh and Caitlyn Jarrell, and Allie and Jake Carter; any many other nieces, nephews and cousins.

Memorials may be made to Union United Methodist Church, 129 W Old Wire Road, Butler, GA  31006.
