Graveside services for Harold Heath, 90, of Butler will be held at 10:00 am Thursday, July 2, 2020 at Butler Memorial Cemetery. Harold passed away on Tuesday, June 30, 2020.
He was born and raised in Taylor County and was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Butler. He served his country as a 31-year veteran of the United States Air Force, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel. Harold served during the Korean Conflict and Vietnam War and was stationed at home and abroad. Upon retiring, he dedicated ten years to the Comptroller’s Statewide Procurement Division for the State of Texas. He returned to his hometown of Butler in the fall of 2001. He served on the Butler City Council and was later elected as Mayor of Butler and served six years.
He was President of Wiesbaden Warriors Family Booster Club in Germany. He was a member of the Lions Club in Austin, TX, Fickling Masonic Lodge #129 of Butler, Al Shiah Shriners of Bibb County, and the Taylor County Kiwanis Club where he served as President for two terms. He faithfully delivered meals to senior citizens on behalf of his church and transported residents of Country Gardens to church activities.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Garnett and Mary Woods Heath; his first wife, Lydia Ibarra Heath; a son Michael James Heath; and a brother, Alton Heath.
Survivors include his wife, Phyllis Smith Heath of Butler; three sons, David Heath (Mary) of Lottsburg, VA, Alan Heath (Gina) of Gaithersburg, MD and Mark Heath (Roberta) of Richmond, TX; seven step-children, Allen Smith (Dawn) of Centerville, Wayne Smith (Terry) of Reynolds, Edie Baxley (Jeff) of Baxley, Steve Smith (Dana) of Butler, Todd Smith (Hayley) of Warner Robins, Dane Smith (Judy) of Butler and Tia Sanderlin of Hahira. Harold was blessed with numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
