Linda (O'Dell) Benton

Linda O’Dell Swanson Benton, 79, of Musella passed away on Friday June 10, 2022. She was born March 23, 1943, to the late Charles Clarence and Myrtis Inez O’Dell, the fifth of ten children born to them in Talladega County, Alabama. She graduated from Lincoln High School in 1961 and attended Tift College, Macon College, Gordon College, and numerous Banking Schools through the Georgia Department of Banking and F.D.I.C. She spent most of her work career in the banking and financial field. After her retirement, she began her teaching ministry as the Senior Adult Women Sunday School Class and Women’s Bible Studies Director at Southside Baptist Church in Southside, AL. She also led the Young Married Couples and Women’s Bible Studies at Musella Baptist Church, and later assisted and taught the Senior Adult Sunday School Class at Pleasant Hill Congregational Church in Roberta. Her commitment to know, love and serve the Lord each day touched many lives, and her generosity, love and dedication will live on in the hearts of her family and friends.

She is survived by her husband Larry G. Benton, her son Keith Swanson (Rosie) of Daphne AL, and grandchildren Philip, Lizzie, Sam, Sarah Claire, Mitchell, Matthew, and Patrick. She is also survived by her sisters Bonnie Gosdeck of Jacksonville FL and Peggy Shambaugh (Roger) of Pell City AL, and brothers Mike O’Dell (Connie) and Tim O’Dell (Bobbi) both of Lincoln AL., sisters-in-law Sue O’Dell (Herschel) of Columbus GA, Betty O’Dell (Richard) of Gadsden AL and Gayle O’Dell (Jimmy) of Ohatchee AL, along with many beloved Nieces and Nephews and their children.

She is preceded in death by her first husband of 38 years, Richard Swanson, parents Charles Clarence and Myrtis Inez O’Dell, sister Marie Allred (Bert), brothers Herschel O’Dell, Richard O’Dell, Jimmy O’Dell, John O’Dell, and brother-in-law Bob Gosdeck.

A Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday, June 17^th at Pleasant Hill Congregational Christian Church 881 Avera Rd Roberta GA 31078.

In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to the Pleasant Hill Congregational Christian Church Building Fund.
