Funeral services for James Luther Spillers, 91, of Butler, will be held on Tuesday, May 31, 2016, at 11:00 am at Turner’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Mr. Spillers was born in Butler on July 8, 1924 to the late Arthur and Mae Wainwright Spillers. He passed away on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Coliseum Medical Center in Macon. He was a member of Turner’s Chapel Free Will Baptist Church and was Sunday school superintendent for over 30 years. He was a US army veteran during World War II in which he served most of his time on Luzon Island, Philippines. Mr. Spillers was a member of the Fickling Masonic Lodge for over 60 years and he was retired from Civil Service. He served as mayor for the City of Butler for 15 years and served on the city council. He was preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Joyce Bickley Spillers. He was a loving father and grandfather, was a friend to everyone he met and will be missed by all.
Survivors include two sons, Charles Spillers of Cumming and Burt Spillers (Heidi) of Holly Springs, NC; one daughter, Deborah Robinson (Paul) of Atlanta; seven grandchildren, Matthew Robinson, Travis Robinson, Kathryn Robinson, Jake Spillers, Abby Spillers, Jameson Spillers and Jackson Spillers.
Visitation will be held on Monday evening from 6 to 8 pm at the funeral home.
